The Weight of Absence

They say absence makes the heart grow fonder,
but for me, it just makes the heart grow heavier.
The weight of missing you is like carrying a boulder,
a constant burden I can’t seem to shake off.

I miss your voice, the sound of your laughter,
the way you used to tease and joke around.
I miss your touch, the warmth of your embrace,
the way you made me feel safe and loved.

Having more people to miss
is just more people to love,
and that’s what makes it so hard.
Every person who leaves
takes a piece of my heart with them,
and I’m left feeling incomplete.

But even in their absence,
their presence lingers on.
In photographs, in memories,
in the little things they left behind.
And though they may be gone,
they are never truly lost.

So I’ll carry this weight of absence
because it means I have loved deeply,
and that is something worth bearing.
